Fallout musical selected for 2023 National Alliance of Musical Theatre Festival (NAMT)

The new American musical Fallout, a family saga about Ukrainian immigrants escaping anti-Semitism after the Chernobyl disaster to settle in Brighton Beach, NY, has been selected to participate in the 35th annual National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) festival on October 26 & 27 of 2023.

Inspired by the life of the show’s composer-lyricist, tech-startup/singer-songwriter Dmitry Koltunov, with book by David Goldsmith, Fallout was chosen to be one of eight shows to present at the prestigious NAMT festival, out of 575 total submissions to this season’s annual event.

In development since starting life as Fireflies in the early 2010s, Fallout has undergone significant changes in characters, songs and story over the years. Its final workshop before submission to NAMT took place in November of 2022, and was preceded by a concert version of the musical at the Marlene Mayerson JCC on the Upper West Side of New York, with theatre luminaries such as Ephraim Sykes, Vicki Lewis, Samantha Massell, Jeremy Kushnier, Eddie Korbich, Christina Sajous and Bryonha Marie (also the wife of bookwriter Goldsmith). A workshop followed, adding Helen J Shen and Allie Trimm, among others.

The event at NAMT took place at New World Stages in Midtown. The cast included Ari Axelrod, Emily Fink, Nathan Salstone, Ashley Brown, Eddie Korbich, Bryonha Marie, Samantha Massel, Jim Stanek, Anne Nathan and Cailen Fu.
